// OVERVIEW

Lumi is a gecko who sits in the bottom-right corner of every page in Aluma. Tap her and a side chat slides in over whatever you're already doing, your assignments list, a class page, the Mastery ledger, and she can answer about that, because the page comes with the question. You never have to explain where you are or paste anything in. She's not a second app or a second assistant: her chats are ordinary Aluma conversations that land in your history like any other.

The screen you're on is handed to Lumi with the question, so she never has to ask which page you mean.

// KEY FEATURES
She sees the screen, not just the question

Every message carries a structured snapshot of the page: which view you're on, the class, the assignment that's open, the headings on screen, the filters you've set, the counts you're looking at. Ask "what does this number mean?" and she knows which number.

A real chat, not a sidebar toy

The first message creates an ordinary Aluma conversation. It shows up in Recents and History straight away, names itself a few seconds later, and runs the same tools as the main tutor. Close the panel and it's still there; reopen on that page and it comes back.

She leaves during tests

Lumi is hidden for live tests, timed practice sittings, exam simulation, graded quizzes, essay scoring, and score review. That's checked against the actual attempt state, not just the page address, so pausing a section and walking back to the hub still counts as a test in progress.

Always the fast, cheap mode

Lumi runs on Hermes 1.2 on every plan, including Free, no matter what the model picker says. She's one tap from everywhere and answers short questions about the page in front of you; the main tutor is where the heavy reasoning happens. The panel tells you which mode it's running.

// HOW IT FLOWS
STEP 01
Tap Lumi

Bottom-right of any page. She does a quick happy hop, then the panel slides in.

STEP 02
Pick a quick action, or just ask

Explain this page · What am I looking at? · Help me get started · Summarize my assignments · What should I study next?

STEP 03
Ask about what's on screen

No pasting, no re-explaining, no switching tabs.

STEP 04
Keep it or close it

The conversation is saved to your history either way. Reopen on the same page and it's waiting.

// WHO USES IT
New to Aluma
Lands on the Mastery page for the first time, taps Lumi, and gets it explained in the two sentences that actually matter, without leaving the page.
Sunday night
Opens Assignments, taps Lumi, asks what to start with. She reads the actual list on screen and names one thing.
Mid-problem
Stuck on one step of a worksheet. Lumi answers the small question so the tutor session doesn't have to restart.
// QUESTIONS
Is Lumi a different AI from the tutor?

No. Same product, same tools, same account. Lumi is a surface, not a second assistant, she just runs the fastest mode because she's meant for quick questions about the page you're on.

Can she see anything I haven't shown her?

No. The page snapshot is filtered on the server against a fixed list of allowed fields and size caps, and anything that looks like a token, password, or cookie is dropped before the model sees it.

Can I use her during a practice test?

No, and that's deliberate. She's hidden for the whole assessment, including paused sections and the score review afterwards.

Where do her chats go?

Into your normal chat history, named and searchable like every other conversation.
