She breaks the prompt into what it gives you and what it wants, then asks which of the two you are less sure about.

She reads the list already on your screen, names one thing, and tells you why that one first.

Plain version first, then the original sentence again, then a question to check that the plain version actually landed.
“Did I actually get that right?”
She asks you to walk her through your reasoning before she says yes or no, because the reasoning is the part that has to hold next week.

Lumi Anywhere, the Chrome extension
The extension opens Lumi in a browser side panel beside whatever you are studying: a Google Doc, a Classroom assignment, a YouTube lecture, a Wikipedia article. Side-panel chats sync back into Aluma, so you can start in the panel and finish in the app.

Lumi teaches one step at a time and asks you to explain it back before she moves on. She will not hand over finished work, and Aluma has no way to turn anything in. That is the product, not a limitation of it.
One step, then a check
She takes the next step with you, then asks a question that only someone who followed it can answer.
She reads, she never writes
The extension cannot type into a page, fill a field, click a control, or submit anything. There is no code in it that can.
Gone during a test
Timed practice, exam simulation, graded quizzes, essay scoring, and score review. Checked against the real attempt state, so pausing a section still counts as a test in progress.
Gone on quiz pages too
If the extension lands on a live quiz or exam page it stops: no hints, no page context, no answer. Enforced on the server, not just in the panel.
In Chrome, nothing goes until you say so.
Nothing from the page you are on is sent until you turn on Selection, This page, or Screenshot for that message. With all three off, the page's address, title, and contents stay on your machine. The line under the message box always says exactly what is about to be sent.

Is Lumi included in my plan?
Lumi inside Aluma, on the web today and in the desktop app planned for December 2026, is on every plan including Free. Lumi Anywhere, the Chrome extension, is included with Starter and above. While Aluma is in beta it is also free for beta accounts, including Free. Usage still counts toward your plan's limits, and after beta it stays with Starter and above.
Will she just give me the answer?
No. Lumi teaches one step at a time and asks you to explain it back. She will work a similar problem with you, but she will not produce the work you are meant to turn in.
Can I use her during a practice test?
No, and that is deliberate. She is hidden for timed practice, exam simulation, graded quizzes, essay scoring, and the score review afterwards, including if you pause a section and walk away.
What can she see?
In Aluma, the question arrives with the screen you are on, filtered on the server against a fixed list of allowed fields, with anything resembling a token, password, or cookie dropped first. In Chrome, nothing from the page is sent until you turn on Selection, This page, or Screenshot for that message.
Where do her chats go?
Into your ordinary Aluma history, named and searchable like every other conversation. Start a question in the Chrome side panel and finish it in the app.
